Kunming No. 1 High School (KMYZ) is a coeducational, public high school for Grades 9-12 located in the city of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province. Founded as a private school in 1905, it is one of the oldest and most respected schools in China. We moved to our current location in 1950 and currently have an average enrollment of 1,000 students per year and a total student body of 3,000 students. We have distinctive characters that make our school special among an array of appealing high schools in China.
We have distinctive academic achievement. We have been placed No. 1 in terms of college entrance rate for the past five years in Yunnan province, serving as one of the major sources of recruitment for China's famous universities like Tsinghua University, Beijing University, Fudan University and Yunnan University. Throughout the years, we have supplied our community a long list of established bankers, entrepreneurs, politicians, scientists, and amongst them is, Mr. Chen-Ning Franklin Yang, a Nobel physics prize winner.

Our community is diverse. Passionately committed to having a diverse community of learners and teachers, KMYZ has a student body that reflects the ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious diversity of the city it calls home. Our commitment to this diverse community and our success is supported by the curriculum, counseling, and extra-curricular activities. It reaches into every corner of school life.
Our facilities are enviable. The school covers 200 mu of land, 44% of which are covered by trees and gardens, creating an urban oasis in the very heart of Kunming. In addition to classrooms, science and computer laboratories, and administrative offices, the school includes four gardens, a tract field, 12 basketball courts, 4 tennis courts, a library building, two dining halls, and several on campus dormitories.

Our teachers are talented and dedicated. More than 10 of them have the titles of pillar teachers at provincial level, over 200 others are senior level faculties, and all four hundred faculty members hold bachelor or master’s degrees from selective colleges and universities around the country.
